About Boise Onsite Service
(January 31, 2009)
My name is Ken Henderson and I am the owner and sole agent of Boise Onsite Service (BOS). Boise Onsite Service is a small business registered in Idaho. What I do is setup, maintain and repair PC's and networks for people and small business' in Treasure Valley. Though I have only had my own business since 1999, I have had continuous hands on experience with Intel processors and Microsoft software and Operating Systems since the Intel 8086 processor and Microsoft DOS version 3.0 were released in August of 1984.
My intent here is to provide information so that you can evaluate BOS and the personal service that I provide. I think that a good way to do that is a historical account of Boise Onsite Service that includes the background, experience and training that have allowed me to provide service to hundreds of happy customers.
My first computer was an Atari console that I acquired some time in the mid 1970's. My next computer was a Kaypro 8086 based computer with DOS 3.1 (an IBM clone). Shortly thereafter I purchased a book written by Peter Norton titled "Assembler Language Programming for the IBM PC". I was hooked.
I have had hands on experience with all of the Microsoft DOS versions since version 3.0, all of the Windows operating systems through Server 2008 and am currently beta testing the new Windows Operating System, Windows 7. I have worked through the Intel evolution from the early the 8086 8Mhz processor through the 286, 386, 486, 586 and various iterations of the Pentium and Celeron family to the current crop of multiple core processors from AMD and Intel.
In addition to the years of hands on work with computers and operating systems, I have four years at BSC (BSU) and substantial network training from Microsoft for Windows 2000, 2003 and the latest 2008 families of Servers. I have also studied at Macon State University in a variety of scripting/programming languages such as Java, SQL, XHTML (and many others) in support of the web based applications and services that I provide.
In the current computing environment, security and protection against the bad guys that inhabit the Internet have become more and more important. I have found that my base of understanding computer hardware, software and network function has been a tremendous advantage when securing against or eliminating the variety of malicious applications that come from everyday use of the Internet.
This same experience has made it possible for me to create trouble free environments when I setup new business or home networks. When it is time to troubleshoot existing computers and networks for bugs and configuration problems I find that I have usually seen it before and have the means to fix it the "right way".
